Common Core Google Doc Birthday

Students create birthday baskets and type paragraphs using Google Docs on Chromebooks after being inspired by Pat Mora's a Birthday Basket for Tia.
With guidance and support from adults, use a variety of digital tools to produce and publish writing, including in collaboration with peers.
We have a Chromebook Cart that holds 29 Chromebooks. It is shared weekly with 2 other 2nd grade classes and three 3rd grade classes. Students use one Gmail/ Google Drive Account (teamnewell@usevs.org) to publish work.
Students have their own folder.

Inside Arabel's Folder

Write informative/explanatory texts in which they introduce a topic, use facts and definitions to develop points, and provide a concluding statement or section.

Celicia put 5 items in a birthday basket for Tia. The author explains why she chose the items for Tia. On April 30th, students put 5 items in a basket for Mrs. Newell's birthday and explained their reasonings for each item! Kids absolutely LOVED this activity and I loved reading them!!!!
