The "Tech"ing Hour: A Spook"tech"ular Event!

My teachers were treated to a spook"tech"ular event during their planning time. Stations where set up, highlighting 8 productivity ipad apps for them to visit. For each station, teachers viewed a YouTube tutorial then they were asked to create a quick (hands-on) product for each station they visited.

A Halloween theme was utilized throughout the staff development and of course, goodies for them for taking time out of their busy planning schedule. They seemed truly engaged - Below are a few comments I received from the staff development:
We are so busy this time of year. Honestly, I looked at it as something else to have to do when there were many other things that seemed more important. However, it was SO nice to go in there and leave everything else at the door, have time to explore apps, and think about ways to use them. By the time I left I was very thankful we had the time set aside to do this.
I liked that it was come and go and I got exactly what I hoped to get out of it. Thank you for taking the time and the money it must have cost to set up such a fun environment!
LOVED IT! It was very hands-on and engaging. I enjoyed being able to move at my own pace and write down notes that applied to my own subject area. I really liked the YouTube tutorial videos that further explained the app.

ScreenChomp VS. Explain Everything

VS.

I have loved using ScreenChomp to record, to sketch, and to share "how to" videos to help students understand math concepts using my iPad on my Apple TV or Smart Board. Students have also loved making their own ScreenChomp videos which has made my iPad an excellent assessment tool.
While searching for ways to upload our recent Go Math Screenchomp videos to You Tube,
I ran across the app called : Explain Everything!
It has more bells & whistles and it even
allows me to automatically upload videos to either You Tube, Dropbox, Twitter or our Team Newell Blog right from my iPad. No extra steps! It is worth $2.99!
Screenchomp does allow you to share videos, but Explain Everything does it right from your iPad quickly with no extra steps.
Here is a quick video that I made to reteach how to find the sum of a near double problem using the doubles.

Students will be making videos to post on our Go Math Journey Website. Check back soon! Pin It

Free Make 10 App

This is a great math app to practice making 10!

"10 Frame Fill" provides children practice with recognizing additive "10 Families" (e.g., 1 and 9, 2 and 8, etc.). Set the 10 Frame to fill in sequence or randomly. Use contrasting color chips to fill the 10 frame as you determine the answer.

My Favorite Screencasting App

This month my teachers have been focusing on creating screencasts with and for their students. I had a couple of teachers decide to purchase the Explain Everything app for their iPads rather than using some of the free apps such as Educreations, ShowMe, Doceri, etc. The main reason for buying the app was because of the ability to save to the camera roll and its ease of use over some of the other apps. This is important because students have been creating math and reading logs using the app Book Creator. Adding video is a great way for students to show what they know about a particular topic. Click on the link below to see an example of how a student used her Explain Everything video to add to her math log.

Click here for an example of a student math log. If you would like to know how to do this in your room click on my blog picture below to check out my post. It is complete with "how-to" videos and examples.

My Go Math Journey Website

For all the tech lovers out there- make sure you visit the Go Math technology tab!

https://sites.google.com/a/usevs.org/my-go-math-journey/

This site was developed to share my Go Math pilot journey with the teachers and parents of the Upper Sandusky Exempted Village School District. It is also intended for any teachers who are also interested in piloting Go Math or in their first year of teaching Go Math!
There are a handful of teachers in our district who are piloting 2 great math programs this year- Go Math and My Math. Our district currently uses Saxon Math and will be choosing a new math series at the end of the school year.
For those of you who know me, you won't be surprised to learn that I have already grown to love Go Math in just a few short months! I am SO EXCITED to share my TEAM NEWELL Go Math Journey with you!! I hope my journey gives you insight into the Go Math Program. I look forward to hearing about My Math success too :)
You can subscribe to individual pages of interest to receive notifications when there are new posts. There are some pages that are empty at this time. I will be posting information as we experience it!

Thank you!
