Live Webcast With Kevin Henkes

I was very excited to get an email that School Library Journal is going to do a live webcast with children's book author Kevin Henkes. I just love his books and I always started out the year when I taught K and 1st with Lily's Purple Plastic Purse and Chrysanthemum. Those are two of my favorites! I really enjoyed the live webcast last year that SLJ did with author Lois Lowery who wrote Number the Stars. It was so neat to hear her talk about her books and answer questions from the live audience of school children.  Here is the LINK  to register if you are interested. I'm going to work on an author study using digital resources with my lower elementary classes - I think probably 2nd and 3rd.  We will conclude with the live webcast. Do any of you have any great ideas for an author study? I'd love it if you would share in the comments below. Thanks!

  1. I love Kevin Henkes! He is such a great author to use for an author study. Thanks for the tip on the webcast!

  2. One way to connect with authors is to skype or do a google hangout with them. There are many that will do free skype sessions. Search for authors on twitter as well. We skyped with Brayn Chick who wrote The Secret Zoo series. He has 4 books out and the 5th coming out next month. He is awesome and loves to skype with classrooms. Tell him Martha Lackey suggested you connect with him. I have read all 4 books as read alouds and the kids love them.

    1. Thanks for the tip Martha! I'm not familiar with these books but I'm sure going to check them out now.
