Mirror Your iPad to Your Computer Wirelessly

Hey there, techie friends!

I have some very sad news to report. The news of an untimely death. The death of my Mimio.

It is broken... apparently, beyond repair.

After a few weeks of living sans interactive whiteboard tools, I was on the hunt for something new and something cheap.

I have come across a few solutions and I have tried them all.

Full Disclosure- this is not my table. Anyone that has been in my classroom would notice that right away, simply because MY computer table is invariably littered with the detrius of second grade... you know, all of the fun stuff that you take away because your kids are fiddling with it? That stuff.

This picture is brought to you by my sweet friend, Kate Daniel, of Second Grade Sparkle. She rocks and so does her blog. Check it out. Stat :)

In my classroom, I have a computer and a projector that I use regularly. Using a VGA adapter, I can connect my iPad to my projector and display apps and information to my class. This works well, but sometimes, I need to be able to move around the room. You know, proximity control :)

So, this issue- along with the advice of my sweet colleague, Sara, led me to an exciting web application that I am thrilled to share with you today.... Reflector.

Reflector enables you to wirelessly mirror your iPad to your computer. Once you have mirrored it to your computer, you can use your normal projector set up to display your ipad for your class. Furthermore, you can wander around your classroom and kids can manipulate the iPad and it will show up on the board.

It is BEAUTIFUL.

Using this system, I can show my kids videos, demonstrate app usage, display their work, and even use my iPad like a document camera. It's fabulous.

The best news?

It's cheap- A single-use license for Reflector is only $12.99.

So, stop on by my blog for a quick video tutorial on getting started with Reflector in your classroom today!

  3. Katy,
I had the same issue when I first learned about reflector!!! It's not in the app store. You purchase it from the developers website.

    P.S. I'm a big fan too ;)
