Magnificent Main Idea Online Resources

I depend on many online resources to help teach Main Idea and Details!
Here are a few:

Brain Pop Jr.
BrainPOP Jr. provides curriculum-based content geared specifically for K-3 students. The site offers a growing library of movies and interactive features across six subjects: science, health, writing, reading, social studies, and math. Our engaging resources support educators and meet students' different learning styles and abilities. Our content includes short animated movies, leveled quizzes, activities, recommended grade-appropriate reading, writing and discussion prompts, and more. All content is aligned to and searchable by state standards.

  1. Hi!

I just found your blog this morning and I am SO glad I did! this post is awesome!!!

I only teach language arts and I am definitely old school when it comes to using technology... as in I hardly ever use it. Our school has had a subscription to BrainPop for years and I have NEVER used it for reading- seriously. Don't I feel like a dummy!!

Thank you for sharing all of these wonderful sites. We are in full review swing before our big test next week and this will come in handy!

    Thanks so much!

    1. Good luck on your test! I know our 3rd grade teachers are nervous!

  2. Thank you for sharing all of these main idea resources!! It is definitely not one of my favorite topics to teach, so I love to find new resources to help me teach it! :)

    1. I feel the same you do about teaching it! No matter what tricks and songs I use- my little boogers just don't get it! Some days I feel like hitting my head agains the wall because some kids just are developmentally ready but I have to force them! Just when I get them understanding what a Main idea - is the State test changes it to Central Idea :)

    2. Ugh, it is such a hard topic for 2nd grade!! Glad you share in my hatred!!
