Common Core Friday Fun

No school on Monday, 3 school delays,
5 indoor recesses= Common Core Friday Afternoon Fun!

Common Core Standard:
RL.2.4 Reading Literature
Describe how words and phrases (Ex: regular beats, alliteration, rhymes, repeated lines) supply rhythm and meaning in a story, poem, or song.
After discussing 2 PEANUT poems/songs (RL.2.4) , students worked in TEAMS to practice the poems/songs for fluency. They worked together to create their own dance for the Peanut Butter Jelly Song to present to the class. This fun activity game me great information about each student while I observed them work with others! I am very proud of the awesome TEAMWORK that I saw while learning!

Video was made with FlipCam and imported into iMovie to "Share" online.

We talked about how this song does not have correct grammar and what it should really say if written correctly! The author wrote it that way on purpose :) Why? Made a great discussion!

Peanut Poem/Song
My dog was digging, dog was digging, dog was digging last night.
Last night my dog was digging, dog was digging last night.

Found a peanut, found a peanut, found peanut last night.
Last night she found a peanut, found a peanut last night.

Brought it to me, brought it to me, brought it to me last.
Last night she brought it to me, brought it to me last night.

Went to plant it, went to plant it, went to plant it last night.
Last night I went to plant it, plant it last night.

It finally grew, finally grew, finally grew last night.
Last night it finally grew, finally grew last night.

There were peanuts, there were peanuts, there were peanuts last night.
Last night there were peanuts, there were peanuts last night.

By the hundreds, by the hundreds, by the hundreds last night.
Last night there were hundreds, there were hundreds last night.

Called my friends, called my friends, called my friends last night.
Last night I called my friends, called my friends last night.

They helped me eat some, helped me eat some, helped me eat some last night. Last night they helped me eat some, helped me eat some last night.

We made peanut butter, made peanut butter, made peanut butter last night. Last night we made peanut butter, made peanut butter last night.

Gave a peanut, gave a peanut, gave a peanut to a jay.
Last night I gave a peanut, gave a peanut to a jay.

Saw him bury it, saw him bury it, saw him bury it last night.
Last night I saw him bury it, saw him bury it last night.

I hope it'll grow, hope it'll grow, hope it'll grow tomorrow
Tomorrow it might grow, hope it'll grow tomorrow.
